Self-harm - a young persons guide
At cherry pie we don’t judge if you self -harm. We understand that it’s just something you do to cope with the way you feel.
By talking about and exploring your triggers and reasons, we can support you in reducing and managing your self-harming behaviours. cherry pie is a safe space for positive change.
If an adult who is legally responsible for you does not know about your self harming behaviour we have a legal duty to safeguard you. This means we would have to share it with them. We know this can feel overwhelming, scary and unmanageable, but we will support you and your adults to move forward and look at healthier options.
Lots of adults don’t know how to react when they learn a young person is deliberately harming themselves- but we do. We listen, stay calm, understand and believe you. That’s our job. That’s why we are here.
We call our approach the ‘self-harm to self-calm’ method of working. We know you can do it, we believe in your ability to take care of yourself in positive, healthy ways. We want to help you and hope you will trust us when looking for support.
